The base is cast in bronze from a riven timber form, retaining the natural grain and texture of the wood. The bronze has been patinated to create a subtle trompe l'oeil effect, closer in appearance to charred timber than cast metal. A blackened steel stem supports a bronze wire frame with a semi transparent linen shade.
The piece is defined by contrast in weight and material. A heavy, irregular base is paired with a light, diffused shade.
Developed as part of an ongoing series exploring cast forms, and material translation.
